Alex and Laura Wedding Day0001

My son, Alex, and his beautiful bride, Laura… Since they married they have hardly had time together because he has been stationed in Okinawa and she is going to school back here.

Military Duty

They all
Give full measure
Of their hearts, minds, and souls
That they may serve and defend our
Nation from enemies both foreign and
Domestic keeping us safe from
Harm and protecting our
Independence
Bravely.

I am grateful:

1.   I was able to spend some time in conversation with Alex.
2.   I finished all the laundry.
3.   When Hope bit me, she did not hurt me to badly, although it was on the face and drew blood.
4.   Mom was pleased with the work I did today.
5.   I fixed her medicine much earlier than I usually do.

I have accomplished more than I imagined possible on this Sunday. I hope you enjoyed your day. I encourage you to make a creative effort and see what you can do. I know you have the talent necessary, just get busy. The world awaits your contribution.

As a prompt, write about our military personnel. You may wish to note their sacrifice or their honor. This is a weekend to have them on our hearts and in our minds, as we should always. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. I hope you will come back often. You may also wish to subscribe to Chronicles by email so you won’t miss updates. If you have thoughts, suggestions, or criticism to share, please leave a comment.

Creativity Project Year Two-Day 124

Happy Mother’s Day! Here is my journal entry:

Journal 5-12-20130001

The Mother’s Day Card I made my Mom in pages:

20130512 Card For Mom0002

20130512 Card For Mom0003

20130512 Card For Mom0004

20130512 Card For Mom0001

A short poem:

My Mom

She wipes
The tears away
And reminds me I have
Many reasons in life to smile,
She encourages me to do my best
When I feel I have not the strength
To continue in my
Pursuit of joy,
Such love.

I am grateful:

1.   I was able to make a nice card for Mom.
2.   I even got my writing pretty straight without guidelines.
3.   I heard from Alex, if only briefly.
4.   The meal turned out better than I expected.
5.   I took a refreshing nap.

My Mom, not today because her pain is so bad…

365 Creativity Project-Day 83

Journal entry:

Journal 4-1-20120001

My poem for today:

Fitful Communication

Weeks go by with no word,
But I know he is there
On his side of the world
Doing his best without complaint.

We are connected despite
The distance separating us.
The internet gives a way
To share our little triumphs.

He says he is almost twenty four,
He has a wife, and things are
Different now, but I am still
His mother, loving him completely.

He is busy, tired, overworked,
I am available, willing, ready,
Whenever he can make the time
For us to share communication.

A few moments of messaging
With him multi-tasking makes
My day worthwhile because
More than anything, I love him.

I am grateful:

1.   I wrote a poem today.
2.   I talked with Linda, my sister-in-law, a few minutes.
3.   This thirty acres has some beautiful things on it.
4.   We stayed home today.
5.   I was able to crush cans and my shoulder did not hurt too bad.

At one point doctors told my parents that I would be a vegetable for the rest of my life because of an overdose of drugs. My Mom and Dad enlisted the prayers of the community for my healing. I have problems, but am a highly functional person. I thank God for His grace toward me. It is a miracle that I survived. My accomplishments amaze me.

If you will work creatively you can enrich the world. You have the gift within you. You must only apply effort to complete great things. I encourage you to use your innate talent and create beauty.

Always,
Jo Ann

365 Creativity Project–Day Nineteen

A few haiku:

Journal 1-28-20120001

A few pictures from our walk:

A shot of the magnet on my car.

Interesting base of an oak tree.

DSC_0610

I painted this for my Mom in 2000.

I had an experience yesterday at Wal-Mart that I am trying to incorporate into a prose piece, but it is not fully formed in my mind yet. What happened just planted the seed of a story in my head. I am not very good at writing stories, but that is probably because I have not practiced the skill very much. I am more accustomed to writing from my own experience.

Hope and I walked a mile today in the beautiful afternoon sunshine. We are having wonderful weather, but I wish it were colder like it should be in Winter. I am afraid this Spring-like weather does not bode well for us later in the year.

I woke up at a reasonable time today, but I went back to bed and slept until early afternoon. I probably should go to bed earlier, but I enjoy the quiet of the nighttime hours.

I finished reading Rumi Hidden Music this morning. I enjoyed the poetry. It fit in with all the devotional reading I am doing.

I hope all of you have enjoyed your Saturday and found some inspiration for creative work.

Always,
Jo Ann

Photograph of Alex in Uniform

This is a picture of my son, Alex, who is a United States Marine.  Alex is currently in Djibouti and expects to be there until sometime in 2011. He is very happy as a Marine and has recently re-enlisted for another five years. He has been in the Corps since June 4, 2006. He has been stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina, but his station will change to Japan after he returns from Djibouti. I am very proud of him and pray he stays safe.
Always,
Jo Ann
