2012

Fortunate days, fortunate ways,
Everything falls in place
In perfect timing, comfortable space.

Blessings rain down, erasing my frown
Bringing glowing smiles
To shorten the many miles.

Jesus travels with me, within me,
Making the journey worth traveling,
Keeping my life from unraveling.

Time passes, a year, rich in good cheer,
Hours made so beautiful
By miracles always very plentiful.

Holiday Gifts

Christmas
Comes only once
Per year bringing with it
Loads of happiness and good cheer
To share with people everywhere and it
Calls us to remember the gift
God sent to us on Earth,
His only son,
Jesus

2.   I was able to talk to my best friend, Reba.
3.   Mom was here with me.
4.   Christmas comes but once a year.

Midnight Oil

Up all
Night once again
Working on the projects
I just never seem able to
Complete beneath the bright light of daytime.
Taking extra hours I have gained
From the deepest darkness
Of night, which holds
Me tight

The page I worked on through the night and into the afternoon…

I am grateful:

1.   I am able to stay up all night on occasion.
2.   I completed the page without too much trouble.
3.   Mom was excited when I suggested we go see the Christmas lights at Life University.
4.   The GPS helped me get us there easily.
5.   We ate supper at Popeye’s.

I hope your Sunday has been as rewarding as mine. I thoroughly enjoyed my extended day. Now I ask that you make the effort to do something creative. Surely if I can accomplish all I have, you can write a few imaginative lines.

As a prompt write about something special you have done with your loved ones in preparation for Christmas or whatever holiday you may celebrate during this season. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.

When There Is Crisis

When things
Fall apart and
Madness appears to rule
Our world, there is a safe haven,
A place, a person to whom we can turn
His name is Jesus and He stands
Ready to take us in arms
Give us hope of
Heaven

I am grateful:

1.   I talked to my friend Dana last night, and greatly enjoyed our conversation.
2.   I was able to go back to sleep after being awakened by a phone call this morning.
3.   We had some extra extension cords.
4.   Jeremy came, cleaned our gutters, and check out the truck.
5.   I found out there is a small raise in my Social Security for 2013.

I have had a nice Saturday. I hope you were able to relax and enjoy your day. Before your day is over, take time to work creatively. It will spice up your day and give it more meaning.

As a prompt, write about what Christmas, or the holiday you celebrate during this season, means to you. You might write an expressive poem, a whimsical story, or a simple journal entry. Just apply your imagination and write.

Thank you for visiting my blog. If you have thoughts, suggestions, or criticism to share with me, please leave a comment. To receive daily updates you can subscribe to Chronicles.

Only Words

Language
Is magical
It opens up new worlds
Calling mankind to the very
Heights and limits of our accomplishment
Lending us the strength to do more
Than we can imagine
Is possible
Language

I am grateful:

1.   There are antibiotics.
2.   I was able to get some Christmas presents for Mom.
3.   Mom liked the two shirts and cup that I gave her.
4.   I got a new Droid phone (which may be too complicated for me to understand) and can retire my poor BlackBerry.
5.   Alex got to Douglasville safely.

I am still recovering from my bronchitis, but I had a fantastic Monday. I hope your day was equally wonderful. I have made the effort to work creatively and so should you. There is no reason you cannot make something great to share with the world. Just make the effort and see what you can accomplish.

As a prompt, write about language. I mused over this all afternoon without benefit of an instrument to record my thoughts. You can write a poem, story, or journal entry while you are sitting down. I encourage you to explore the world of words.

I am so glad you took the time to visit my blog. If you have thoughts, suggestions, or criticism, please leave a comment. I hope you enjoyed my entry today and encourage you to follow Chronicles for daily updates.

First Blog Entry of 2012

I am thankful:

1.   I made it through 2011, and accomplished much in the year.
2.   Mom is doing fairly well.
3.   I was able to get a new laptop, Wacom tablet, some artistic programs, and Office Professional 2010 for Christmas.
4.   I have designated my old laptop for Mom’s use and she is learning to use it for playing games she enjoys.
5.   I have lowered my reading goal for 2012 to encourage more creative pursuits.
6.   I chose to do the Read The Bible For Life study with my Mom this year and she is enjoying it so far. I read all the material aloud to her and elaborate on the answers to the questions asked in the study.
7.   I was able to pay my cell phone bill for this month and my car insurance.
8.   We do not have any appointments in the coming week and our shopping is done for a few days. Maybe it will not be necessary to go to town until late in the week.
9.   Winter has been mild and I have not even had to put on a heavy coat this year.
10.  We were able to help Laura, my daughter-in-law, by giving her the mattress set from Alex’s room.
11.  My dog, Hope, is a wonderful companion and very sweet.
12.  The gift cards I was given for Christmas helped me survive December.
13.  Jana gave me a Kindle gift card that I have not used yet.
14.  Our Christmas and New Year meals were delicious.
15.  I took all the library books back and am now reading books I own.
16.  I have found some excellent resources on the internet for writing, art, and free eBooks.
17.  I have adequate shelter, clothing, transportation, and nutrition.
18.  God blessed me with intelligence and talent.
19.  I have experienced love in my life.
20. I have survived the ravages of pain and hate.

I am enjoying my new computer a great deal and am so glad I can share the older one with my Mom. It gives her something that challenges her mind and keeps her entertained. I am hoping to use my new equipment to further my artistic endeavors this year as well as my writing. Cutting back on my reading goal should give me more time to use creatively. The only thing I lack now is inspiration and I am hoping that will be in ample supply. I have some books that should help with it.

I like doing the Bible study with my Mom. Her attention motivates me to do the daily readings. I probably would not do the study without her involvement. Making her happy makes me feel I am a success.

I have been watching the Republican debates and though I am not happy with everything President Obama has done, I do not see where any of these candidates would be a superior choice. I am afraid there is still a long process before our economy will recover and I do not think one man has the power to do all that is necessary to accomplish effective change. The people of our country can not make things better when they are so divided in their resolve. Working together is the only effective way to improve our nation’s problems.

If anyone is lonely and sad I highly recommend acquiring a puppy dog to provide companionship and lift the spirits. My sweet Shih Tzu, Hope, is a wonderful addition to my life. I do not think I would be nearly as happy without her presence.

I hope everyone has a wonderful year full of blessings and happiness. I encourage each one to take time to be thankful. Gratitude adds satisfaction to life.

Always,
Jo Ann

Thankful List

I am thankful:

1.   Mom bought me a BlackBerry as an early Christmas present and is paying for six months of Boost Mobile service.
2.   I found new collars and leashes for Hope that are very pretty and were extremely reasonably priced.
3.   After being extremely upset, Mom has settled down and is being human again.
4.   I entered over 100 contacts into my BlackBerry and called several people I had not spoken to in ages. It was nice hearing their voices.
5.   I bought several wonderful books at Sam’s Club and Borders.
6.   Laura, Alex’s fiancĂ©e, asked me to do the writing inside their wedding invitations.
7.   We have heat to keep us warm as days grow cold.
8.   Hope, my puppy dog, is adorable, sweet, and lovable.
9.   So far, Mom and I have not been physically sick this season.
10. We are staying home for Christmas.
11.  I am blessed beyond all measure by the Lord who loves me and cares for my every need.
12.  My son, Alex, has grown into a wonderful young man who exceeds my expectations with his sterling character.
13.  I have read so many great books this year. 122 and counting.
14.  I cooked for Thanksgiving Day and Mom said it was delicious.
15.  I am content with my life, though it is not glamorous or exciting.
